Leticia was tired of her husband René getting all the attention about their Acura Integra. Outside of their home, she didn’t get recognized for all the work she put into the car, and all her good design ideas. “I help, but no one ever told me, how beautiful what you helped with.” Just because I’m a woman, it doesn’t mean that I don’t like cars,” she says proudly. “I think women have better taste when designing a car, but they just focus their energy in other things.” That’s the case for all of Leticia’s girl friends. They all love Leticia’s car, but when it comes to tuning cars, they don’t get involved.
Not Leticia -Leti for her friends. She loved her husband’s Integra. And she even used to “play races” in it for fun in the streets. “We only raced in places where there was no traffic, where there were a lot of factories, and only at night.” That was before “a law was passed in which your car gets taken away (if you’re caught racing), because a lot of people have died racing in the streets,” says Leti.
To this day, men still challenge her to race in the streets. But she wants none of that. She now races at the relatively new Irwindale Speedway.
One day in 2004 Leticia said enough. It was time for her to have her own car, to design the look of it and to get the credit she deserved. Her husband, who is a professional floor installation technician and also works as a mechanic installing stereos and other components on his free time, would help her, but this would be her car...
